Bison Lose A Pair Of Dual Meets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped its first two dual meets of the season against American University and George Washington this weekend.

The men's team fell, 105-91, and the women were setback by a score of 121-69 at American. On Saturday, the men loss, 119-70, and the women dropped a 149-77 decision.

Howard tallied eight first-place finishes and had multiple athletes swim their way into the Bison record books.

For the women, Leanne McMaster swam the 10th fastest time in program history in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:47.46. Danni Brown took third place and beat her personal best on her way to becoming the ninth faster swimmer in HU history in the 200 freestyle (2:00.86). Akesha Minnifee-Cox placed third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.32, which is the sixth fastest time at Howard.

For the men, Don Brazelton finished the 200 backstroke in 2:01.24. It is the seventh quickest time program history. Xavier Philips recorded the eighth fastest time for Howard on his way to winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:15.37.

Howard vs. George Washington

In the 100 backstroke, Kasandra Kaplan finished the race in a time of 1:01.06, which was fast enough for second place. Latroya Pina swam to second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.23 and Danni Brown took third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.05).

For the men, Jared Miller won the 100 backstroke in 53.10 and Don Brazelton came in third in a time of 55.54. Alex Brown completed the 100 butterfly in 55.09 for third.

Howard continues its dual meet schedule against Mount St. Mary's on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.
