WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard volleyball team swept Delaware State (25-16, 25-13, 25-15) on Sunday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium to stay perfect in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play.
The Bison improved to 19-5 overall and 8-0 in the MEAC. Howard has won its last nine matches.
Senior Whitney Fields connected on 10 of 12 swings for a .750 hitting percentage to lead the team. Juniors Khaila Donaldson and Jessica Young tallied nine kills apiece. Donaldson also had a match-high three service aces.
Sophomore Tamia Dockery handed out 28 assists and senior Morgan Marlbrough posted 12 digs.
As a team, the Bison hit .400 while limiting the Hornets to a .071 mark.

Howard started the match with a 10-7 lead until DSU scored four straight points to tie the set at 13. The momentum swung back in HU's favor as the team put together three consecutive points on kills by Donaldson and senior Dominique Cleggett. Errors plagued the Hornets towards the end of the set and an attack error handed it over to the Bison, 25-16.
Both teams exchanged points to kick off the second set and knotted the score at 7. Howard quickly overpowered the Hornets after going on an 11-5 run, which featured three kills from Donaldson. A DSU kill brought the score to 19-13, which would be the last time the Hornets added points in the set. Howard closed things out with seven straight points and took the set, 25-13.
The Bison and Hornets tied the third set five times before the home squad got a slight 14-13 edge on a block by sophomore Olubunmi Okuande. Howard strung together five straight points on two aces by junior Carlise Cardoza, and blocks from Okunade and Young to go ahead 19-13. Senior Janaya Hampton's kill gave the Bison a match-point opportunity before Dockery and Fields joined together at the net for a block to end the match.
Howard will host Norfolk State on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m.
