JACKSON, Miss. – Senior Sara Vaughan early goal lifted the Howard women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Jackson State on Friday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex.
The Bison improved to 7-3-2 and 4-0-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Howard has won its last three games.
HU took a total of 13 shots while limiting the Tigers to six attempts. Junior goalie Gabrielle Emilien notched four saves and JSU's Faith Toennies had three.
Howard tallied three shots in the first eight minutes of the game. Vaughan scored the game-winner at the 11:04 mark after she found the back of the net on a perfect strike over the net-minder. It was the only shot that Vaughan took during the match.
Junior Noelle McCullom tallied a game-high three shots, followed by junior Kela Gray and freshman Hollie Cartwright with a pair.
The Bison will face Southern on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. ET.
