WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference game of the season with a 2-1 loss to Navy on Tuesday night at Greene Stadium.
The Bison have an 8-4-2 overall record and the Mids move up to 6-8-2.
Junior goalie Gabrielle Emilien closed the night with eight saves, while Navy's Sydney Fortson earned five rejections.
With 11 minutes off the clock, Cat Macklin put the Mids up 1-0 after sending the ball over Emilien's fingertips into the top right corner.
The Bison tried to respond as sophomore Jasmin Miller and junior Kela Gray both had good tries but could not get past the keeper.
Navy extended its lead in the 31st minute thanks to Baseley McClasky.
At the 64:20 mark, junior Noelle McCullom tallied her fifth goal of the season and moved the score to 2-1. Gray drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for Howard. McCullom lined up her shot and made Fortson go left while she put the ball in the right corner.
Gray tried to tie the game with back-to-back shots in a five second span but had both attempts thwarted.
Navy outshot Howard by a 13-10 margin.
The Bison jump back into SWAC play when they face Prairie View A&M on Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
