BALTIMORE, MD --- Led by the outside hitting duo of sophomore
Jasmine Sasser and junior
Katherine Broussard, the Howard women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought four-set victory over the University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers on Tuesday evening at the RAC Arena. The win was the Bison's first road triumph of the year and kept the Retrievers from winning their home opener.
FAST FACTS (W, 29-31, 25-20, 27-25, 25-14)-Â Â Â Â For the first time in 30 career matches, Sasser led Howard (2-7) in kills with 11 converted attacks. Her .529 hitting percentage in the match (11-2-17) was a career best (min. 10 attacks).
-Â Â Broussard established herself quickly in her first match of the season, posting a double-double of 10 kills (on .226 hitting) and 11 digs.

Khaila Donaldson nine kills and 12 digs put her one kill shy of her fourth double-double of the season.

-Â Â Howard opened the match by battling UMBC (3-4) in the Bison's highest scoring set of the season, a 31-29 win for the Retrievers.
-Â Â HU would go on to claim the next three sets, finishing the second by outscoring 10-5 after a 15-15 tie; surviving 20 total ties (14) and lead changes (6) in set three; and never relinquishing the lead in set four.
NEXT UPHoward will head to Philadelphia this weekend to take part in the Villanova University Classic on September 11-12. HU will face James Madison (9/11; 5 p.m.), the host Wildcats (9/12; 1 p.m.) and Siena University (9/12; 5 p.m.).
