Tamia Dockery each posted double-doubles in
the Howard women's volleyball team's 3-1 (25-20,25-5,24-26,25-22) victory over Delaware State University on Sunday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.Donaldson posted a match-high 20 kills and 15 digs, giving her a team-high seven double-doubles in 2015. She has also logged a double-double in three consecutive games. Donaldson's second 20-kill match of the season and fifth of her career kept Howard (5-12, 2-0 MEAC) undefeated after two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contests. The kill total was also her second-most on the year (23 vs Princeton, 9/19) and came as a result of her second-best hitting performance (.234; 20-9-47) of the 2015 campaign.
Dockery collected her fifth double-double (second only to Donaldson) by logging a match-high 22 assists and adding 13 digs. Four of Dockery's double-doubles have come in the team's last five games.
Junior setter
Briana Jackson also had double-digit assists, setting up 19 points while junior libero
Morgan Marlbrough had a match-best 23 digs and junior outside hitter Dominque Cleggett led the Bison with three solo blocks.
The highlight of the victory over DSU (2-13, 0-1 MEAC) was the Bison's dominant 25-5 Set 2 victory:
- The 20-point margin of victory was the Bison's largest in a set during head coach
Shaun Kupferberg's tenure.
- Howard recorded its fewest kills of the match (12) in the set but countered that with a perfect 100 percent (6-6) sideout rate and its highest hitting mark (.391; 12-3-23) of the match.
- By comparison, Howard held the Lady Hornets to its worst numbers of the match (one kills, -.227 hitting percentage, 20% sideout rate).
- Howard opened the set on a 10-0 run that included five kills (three by Donaldson, two by freshman
Courtney Dalton) and two services aces by senior outside hitter
Jaleeza Stoudermire.
NEXT UPHoward will travel to Baltimore over the weekend for a pair of MEAC contests with early conference implications. The Bison will take on Morgan State University on Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. and Coppin State University on Sunday, October 4 at 3 p.m. Going into this weekend, all three teams are tied for first in the Northern Division with identical 2-0 records.
