PHILADELPHIA, PA --- In its best performance of the season, the Howard men's soccer team came close to earning its first win of the season but lost in double overtime 3-2 to the Saint Joseph's University Hawks on Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field.After falling behind within the first ten minutes of the game, Howard (0-8-1) responded by scoring the next two goals - one on an Isaac Mbappe to Victor Guirma connection (17') and the second on a set up from Omar Lewis to Austin Williams (88').The Bison nearly walked away with the victory but with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation, Matt Crawford of Saint Joseph's (2-6-1) netted the equalizing score to send the game to extra time.
The first overtime and the first five minutes of the second overtime saw
each team take only two shots each but with 2:25 left in the contest, SJU's Emmanuel Temeh - who set up the final score in regulation - scored the game-winner off an assist from Mike Akinkoye.
Despite the loss, the Bison set season highs in several categories: shots (13), corner kicks (7), goals (2) and assists (2).
NEXT UPHoward wil play the second game of its five-game road trip on Tuesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. against the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
