CATONSVILLE, MD --- A highlight-worthy goal from junior midfielder
Xavier Rajpaul was not enough to propel the Howard men's soccer team to its first victory of the season as the Bison lost to the University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers on Tuesday afternoon at Retrievers Soccer Park.
Rajpaul, a transfer from the College of Charleston, scored the goal in the 53rd minute to tie the game at 1-1. The line drive shot, which came on a free kick from about 50 yards, went in just over the outstretched arms of UMBC goalkeeper Billy Heavner and right under the crossbar.
Unfortunately, the Bison (0-9-1) conceded the game-winning goal to UMBC (6-2-1) on an own goal in the 66th minute when a Howard defender tried to head away a cross by the Retrievers but accidently put it into the HU net.
NEXT UPHoward will travel to Moon Township, PA for a matchup against Robert Morris University on Friday, October 2 at 3 p.m.
