ORMOND BEACH, FL --- In the opening game of the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament, the Northern 4-seed Howard softball team was defeated by the Southern 1-seed Savannah State Tigers, 10-1, in five innings on Thursday morning at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The only offense from the Lady Bison (14-28) came off the bat of redshirt junior
Jasmine Gammons, who went 2-for-2 with her fourth home run of the season. Gammons' two hits marked the seventh time all season that the Lady Bison finished with two or fewer hits in a game this year.
Howard and Savannah State (21-15) played a pair of scoreless innings to open the contest before the Tigers opened of the game by turning seven hits into a nine-run third inning.Â
SSU would add another unearned run in the bottom of the fourth before Gammons belted her home run with two outs in the fifth.
The Lady Bison will move to the consolation bracket and face the loser of the Bethune-Cookman & Hampton matchup later this afternoon.
