Howard Places League-Best 159 Student-Athletes on MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team

MEAC RELEASE

NORFOLK, VA --- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its 2015 Commissioner's All-Academic Team members this week and Howard University earned the distinction of having the most selections of all 13 MEAC institutions. Of the 1,096 student-athletes selected for the All-Academic team, the men & women of Howard accounted for 159 - or 14.5 percent - of those honored.

"Our student-athletes continue to exceed the high academic standards we've set for them and we are extremely proud of this accomplishment," said Interim Director of Athletics Shelley Davis. "It is a team effort to earn such a distinction so I would like to thank our coaches and academic support staff as well. Their support of our student-athletes is critical in ensuring excellence in the classroom."

Howard was one of only two schools to have over 100 selections - South Carolina State placed 101 student-athletes on the All-Academic team.

"Our mission at Howard University is to produce balanced scholars,"  said Howard University President Wayne A.I . Frederick. "We are proud of our student-athletes that are committed not only to their academic careers, but to athletic excellence as well."

In 2014, Howard had 131 student-athletes make the Commisioner's list, second to Delaware State's 136.

All honorees were sophomores, juniors and seniors who maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

"I am excited to honor and recognize the 1,096 student-athletes who maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would like to congratulate the administrators, athletic academic support staff and personnel, coaches, and parents for their contributions to the academic success of these student-athletes."
