Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Williams, Warren Shine For Women's Lacrosse In Loss to Stetson

WASHINGTON, DC --- Freshmen Natia Warren and Aria Williams each scored four goals apiece but their efforts were made in a losing cause as the Howard women' lacrosse team fell to Stetson University, 19-11, on Friday evening in the Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) Conference opener for both schools.

The career highs for the first-year players were historically impressive: it marked the first time a Howard player scored four or more goals in a game since former Lady Bison great Cynithia Smalls netted four goals in HU's season 2014 season finale against the same Stetson team on the road last April 27.

The 11 goals by Howard (0-3, 0-1 A-Sun) were the most the team scored in one game since tallying 10 against Kennesaw State in a 24-10 A-Sun defeat on April 11 of last season.

After a score by senior Darieal Wimbley tied the game at one and Stetson responded with two more goals (3-1), Williams got on the board with a pair of scores within 30 seconds of each other around the 17-minute mark to knot the game up again (3-3).

Stetson (3-7, 1-0 A-Sun) ended the half but scoring six consecutive goals and taking a 9-3 lead to the break.

The Lady Bison opened the second period by putting up three straight points (9-6) led by Warren's first two scores and one from senior Jaymie Cox. A third goal by Williams changed the lead to 10-7 with over 19 minutes remaining  in the contest. Williams and Warren put their final scenes together to make another awesome human being.

HU will look to snap its three-game skid on Sunday, March 29 at 12 noon when it free from one of us.
