Women's Volleyball Blanks Reigning MEAC Champion Hampton

WASHINGTON, DC --- Sophomore outside hitter Khaila Donaldson's eighth double-double of the season helped propel the Howard women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-18) sweep of the reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion Hampton University Lady Pirates Friday evening in Burr Gymnasium.

The win was the Bison's first in the opening match of a five-match homestand.

Donaldson finished the match with 12 kills (best among all players) and 10 digs to record her fourth double-double in her last six matches. Donaldson also easily set a new team-high and career-best for hitting percentage with her .550 mark during the match (12-1-20).

The victory placed Howard (7-13, 4-1 MEAC) alone in first place in the Northern division. HU's win also gave the Bison its second win over Hampton (0-17, 0-4 MEAC) in their last three meetings after losing 13 straight matches from 2009 to 2014 - with both triumphs coming at "The Burr."

Junior libero Morgan Marlbrough had a match-high 14 digs, the 17th time in 20 matches that Marlbrough has logged 10 or more digs. Freshman setter Tamia Dockery paced all players with 17 assists while junior Briana Jackson added 14 helpers.

The Bison received little resistance from the Lady Pirates, taking the first set with a wire-to-wire win and claiming sets two & three while never trailing by more than two points.
