WASHINGTON, DC --- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division-leading Howard women's volleyball team improved to 5-1 in conference play with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-19) sweep of Norfolk State University on Sunday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium.
The victory was the Bison's (8-13, 5-1 MEAC) third win in a row - all of which were 3-0 sweeps - as well as its sixth win in eight games.
THE RUNDOWN- Â Â Sophomore outside hitter
Khaila Donaldson narrowly missed out on double-doubles in back-to-back games with her 12-kill, nine dig performance against the Spartans (1-15, 0-3 MEAC). It was the seventh time Donaldson had 10 or more kills (four double-doubles in that span).
- Â Â Freshman setter
Tamia Dockery finished with a match-high 17 assists, reaching that total for the third time in four contests. Dockery extended her 10+ assists streak to 13 straight matches. Dockery also led all players with a pair of service aces.
- Â Â Junior libero
Morgan Marlbrough once again set the match pace with 15 digs in the contest.
- Â Â Other notables: Junior setter
Briana Jackson - 11 assists; junior outside hitter
Dominique Cleggett - .429 hitting percentage (4-1-7); junior outside hitter
Katherine Broussard - five kills, nine digs, five blocks (two solo, three assists).
- Â Â The Bison easily won the first two sets while never trailing by more than a point in each set. However, Set 3 provided some adversity for Howard as Norfolk State opened up a 12-6 lead. A HU timeout helped break the Spartans' momentum and started a 7-0 run by the Bison. The Howard surge eventually grew to a match-closing 19-7 run.
NEXT UPHoward will host Bethune-Cookman University in an interdivisional MEAC match on Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m. in Burr Gym.
