Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- Playing in its second overtime game in as many contests, the Howard women's soccer team finished with a tie against the Radford University Highlanders, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half but Howard (0-3-1) controlled much of the action as the Lady Bison held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams' only goals came early in the second half and within four minutes of each other. Radford (0-2-1) would strike first in the 56th minute as McKensey Ziegler found Hannah Thomas, who flicked a pass to senior Kara Wade for the 1-0 lead.
Howard responded in the 60th minute as senior midfielder
Nia Walcott corralled a bouncing ball in the box and put home the Lady Bison's first home score of the season to tie the game.
HU nearly took the lead in the 69th minute after a strong 30-yard shot from freshman
Whitney White hit the bottom of the crossbar and junior forward
Nikanya Clark failed to put in the rebound in front of the goal.
The Lady Bison played their strongest game of the season, statistically: they dominated the shot count (24-10) and put more attempts on goal (14-5) and kept their corner kick advantage (14-8).
Four players took at least four shots for Howard, including Walcott and White, who each put three shots on goal.
Howard will have two games off before returning to action within the District as the Lady Bison take on American University on Wednesday, September 10 at 4 p.m.
