BROOKLYN, NY --- Despite redshirt sophomore guard Te'Shya Heslip hovering near a triple-double and four total players scoring in double figures, the Howard womene's basketball team was unable to capitalize as the Lady Bison dropped an 83-74 decision to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds on Sunday afternoon at the Steinberg Center.Heslip finished two rebounds shy of a triple double - a game-high 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for Howard (1-9), who remain winless away from DC this season (0-5). Senior forward Cheyenne Brown chipped in 15 points, sophomore forward Sydni Johnson had 14 and sophomore guard Jasmine Hill to log her first game with 10+ points this year.Things looked promising for the Lady Bison early against LIU (2-6) - Howard led 6-2 within the first two minutes and held a nine-point edge (37-28) Â with 1:45 to go in the half.
The Blackbirds seemed to steal the game's momentum as the half came to an end. LIU would go on a 9-0 run in the half's waning minutes to send both teams tied at 37-all.
Howard continued to struggle when play resumed as LIU would outscore the Lady Bison 19-13 to take an 11-point lead (63-52) with 9:18 remaining. The Blackbirds would hold a double-digit lead over Howard for most of the time left in the game.
