Howard Attempts To Continue Streak

New Britain, CT—The Howard University football team will be looking to extend its current two-game win streak when it steps out of conference to take on the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State on Saturday at 1 pm at Arute Field.

The Bison (3-7) are coming off a 51-21 win over Savannah State this past Saturday in which they amassed a season-high 607 yards of total offense.  Junior running back William Parker had another fine day, rushing for a career-high 175 yards and two TDs while senior quarterback Greg McGhee passed for 318 yards and 4 TDs.

CCSU (2-8) is coming off a loss to Sacred Heart at home last Saturday, its fifth straight under first year head coach Pete Rossomando.  The Blue Devils have had problems scoring of late, averaging 18 points while allowing more than 28.

But the CCSU offense will test the Bison defense, which has been plagued by injuries all season.

Rob Hollomon leads the Blue Devils' ground attack with 937 yards on 187 carries and 7 TDs.  Nick SanGiacome spearheads the passing attack as he has completed over 55 percent of his passes for 1,664 yards and 14 TDs.  His favorite target has been Tyrell Holmes with 45 receptions.

This is the first meeting between the two schools and should be intriguing.

"You can't look at records.  This is a good team and we have to focus.  They do a good job of disguising what they do on defense," said Howard head coach Gary Harrell of CCSU.  "In Brenden Lytton, they have a big back with good speed who can make plays.  Wideout Tyrell Holmes is a long rangy athlete who can make plays. Their quarterback is a big guy who throws the ball well and does a good job of managing the game.  Overall, they are a scrappy team similar to Savannah State.  They come at you very hard so we have to be prepared."

McGhee is getting closer and closer each game to the MEAC and school record for career total offense.  The 6-3, 210-pound senior from Pittsburgh, Pa needs 262 yards in the final two games to break Ted White's mark of 9,845 yards.

The Bison close out the season next Saturday when they host Hampton University at 12:30 pm in Greene Stadium.  McGhee and seven of his teammates will be honored in the pre-game ceremonies as they will be playing their last game in a Bison uniform.
