WASHINGTON, DC --- The Howard women's volleyball team produced a record-setting outing on Friday evening, sweeping their way to 2-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with a 3-0 (25-17, 34-32, 25-20) victory over Maryland Eastern Shore at Burr Gymnasium.
Howard (9-8 / 2-0 MEAC) set three program records against UMES (8-9 / 1-1 MEAC): Most kills in a three-set match (57); most assists in a three-set match (56); and most individual assists in a three-set match  (senior setter
Stephanie Shultis with 50).
Sophomore middle blocker
Whitney Fields had her best outing of the season, leading the Lady Bison with a game-high 16 kills while hitting .400 (16-4-30). Freshman outside hitter
Khaila Donaldson registered another double-double (15 kills, 12 digs) while senior outside hitter
Meagan Lagerlef added 12 kills on a game-high .409 hitting percentage (12-3-22).
Sets one and three of the match were uneventful. Howard opened each set with small runs (5-0 and 3-0 respectively) and were never seriously challenged.
However, set two turned into the longest set of the season. After 14 tied and four lead changes - numbers that could be for an entire match alone - a pair of attack errors gave the Lady Bison the point.
Howard will face its first turn conference test on Sunday, October 5 as the team travels to take on reigning MEAC champion Hampton University.
