NORFOLK, VA --- The Howard women's volleyball team moved to 3-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play after a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) victory over Norfolk State on Friday evening at Gill Gymnasium.
The victory, which spoiled NSU's home opener, was the fourth 3-0 sweep the Lady Bison (10-9, 3-1 MEAC) have posted this year and moves the team back above .500 for the season. Norfolk State
(0-16, 0-4 MEAC)Â remains winless after the loss.
Freshman outside hitter
Khaila Donaldson led Howard with 12 kills and tied for the game-high in digs with eight. Senior libero
Allyson Lods also had eight digs while sophomore middle blocker
Whitney Fields recorded 10 kills, her second double digit kill performance of the season - both in the past week.
Howard tried to break loose of Norfolk State in the beginning of the first set but found itself tied with the Lady Spartans, 5-5 early on. The Lady Bison would hit their stride after that point, outscoring NSU 20-11 to take set one and never trailing in set two while leading by as many as 10 points.
Norfolk tried to rally in the third set but Howard outscored the Spartans 16-7 after four ties and three lead changes led to a 9-9 deadlock.
Howard returns to action on Sunday, October 12 for a 3 p.m. matchup in Baltimore with Coppin State.
