Lady Bison Sting Hornets In Final Home Match Of Season

Box Score WASHINGTON, DC --- In the final home match of the 2013 season, the Howard University Volleyball team rebounded from an early set loss to claim a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20) victory over fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division Delaware State University on Homecoming Sunday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium.

The win was the Lady Bison's third in a row, moves the team's record to 18-8 (6-2 MEAC), and keeps them in sole possession of second place in the North. The Hornets fall to 2-18 (0-8 MEAC) on the season.

Set one saw both teams go through six ties and three lead changes, the latest at 19-19. Delaware State would eventually take the set after half of their final six points came from errors on the Howard side.

The same number of lead changes occurred in set two, but the only lead change occurred at 3-2 when a kill by junior Assata Conway put the Lady Bison ahead for good to tie the game at 1-1.

Howard would take the final two sets by hitting better than DSU (.285-.100), doubling them in kills (30-15) and limiting errors (22-39).

Freshman Katherine Broussard again led the Lady Bison in attacks, registering 17 kills and a .417 hitting percentage (17-2-36). Sophomore Jaleeza Stoudermire posted a season-high 13 kills as well. Broussard and junior Stephanie Shultis both nearly missed double doubles, as Broussard added nine digs and Shultis had nine kills and 46 assists. Freshman Morgan Marlbrough paced HU in digs with 16.

Howard will finish the regular season with four straight road games, beginning with at November 1 matchup against Norfolk State University on Friday, November 1 at  7:00 pm.
