On November 23, 2020, Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men’s & Women’s Tennis teams welcomed Breaunna Addison to the Bison Family as their new Associate Head Coach.
 
Addison arrives at The Mecca after a plethora of experience as a coach and former outstanding student-athlete.
 
Before coming to HU, Addison spent three seasons as an assistant tennis coach with the Miami RedHawks (2018-2020). During her tenure, Miami (Ohio) won the 2018-2019 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships while advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
 
In addition, two RedHawks were recognized as the MAC Player of the Year while five other student-athletes received Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic honors.
 
While at Miami, Addison earned her Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health with a concentration in Sports Psychology. Furthermore, she continued to hone her skills by becoming a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Elite Professional Coach.
 
Prior to Miami, Addison also worked as a High Performance Tennis Coach at LAT Tennis Academy in Florida.
 
Addison had a stellar track record at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin (2013-16) as a student-athlete. During her time as a Longhorn, she guided the squad to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a Big 12 Conference Championship (2013) during her freshman season. In her rookie campaign, she reached the 2013 NCAA Singles Semifinals.
 
She also earned multiple honors during her collegiate career, including All-American honors (2013, 2014 & 2016), Big 12 Player of the Year (2014 & 2016), Big 12 Freshman of the Year (2013), Big 12 Tournament MVP (2013) and an NCAA Elite 89 nomination.
 
Addison graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.
 
Breaunna also earned national recognition after an impressive junior career. She was nationally ranked No. 1 in both Girls 12 and 14s while capturing the 2009 16s Orange Bowl, just shy of her 15th birthday.
 
Addison collected three International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Titles; reaching a career high ranking of #139. During a brief stint on the professional tour, Addison earned wins against three Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Top 150 players, including two ITF $10,000 Semifinal finishes, and a WTA ranking of 854.
