Defensive Line Coach/ Special Teams Coordinator
Bobby Jones is entering into his third season with Howard as the defensive line coach. Before joining the Bison sidelines, Jones served as the defensive line coach for four seasons at Delaware State. During the 2009 season, defensive linemen Fabian Dunn and Andre Carroll were the only DSU players to earn All-MEAC honors. Under Jones’ leadership, the Hornets finished second in the MEAC in pass efficiency defense (79.5) and opponents’ first downs (288.4 ypg) and pass defense (144.1 ypg).  In 2007 Jones helped lead DSU to a MEAC championship and his defense unit earned high national rankings in pass efficiency defense (No.9), scoring defense (No. 31) and pass defense (No. 14).  Jones also served in the same capacity for the Bison under Rayford Petty from 2002-06. Bison defensive end Rudy Hardie earned All-American honors
after leading the conference in sacks during the 2006 season. Hardie went on to play in the NFL with the
Detroit Lions following his standout career at Howard.
 
In 2011, Jones helped develop the defensive line that ranked among the nation’s best in tackles for losses and sacks.
 
Jones played for Howard and was a member of the 1996 team that captured the Black College National Championship and a victory over Southern in the Heritage Bowl.  As a defensive tackle, he was a stalwart on the defense, which ranked among the nation’s best.
 
An outstanding student and member of the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic team, Jones received his bachelor’s in 1998 and a medical doctorate in 2003. He is married to Deidre Washington.
