Alex Ughiovhe

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach

In 2024, Alex Ughiovhe joined the Howard University men's soccer team as an assistant coach. A native of Washington, D.C., he has over 15 years of coaching experience. He has coached at various levels, including high school, club and college where he has developed players at every level.

After the 2024 campaign, Bryson Baker (All-NEC Second Team) and Daniil Kaban (All-Rookie Team) received NEC (Northeast Conference) postseason honors. Academically, nearly two dozen Bison made the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Before joining the Bison, he served as the Head Coach of the Trinity Washington University Women’s Soccer team. During his first year as an assistant, he helped the Tigers to their first-ever win over a Division II school and their first multi-win game season. As a first-year head coach, he helped the Tigers record their most successful season of the last decade.

Before coaching, he grew up playing club soccer at Washington Soccer Club and Bethesda Soccer Club. He served as captain his senior year at Woodrow Wilson High School, now known as Jackson Reed, and was selected to the 2001 All-Met team. Ughiovhe went on to play at Howard University where he captained the team his senior year. He and his sister, Angel Ughiovhe, were the first siblings to be captains at the collegiate level at the same school while both were there.

In 2006, he was drafted by the Chicago Fire (MLS) and then went on to play with Crystal Palace USA (USL), receiving multiple honors.
