Jake Brown

In 2019, Jake Brown joined the Howard University men’s basketball program as an assistant coach under Kenneth Blakeney.

Entering his third year, he served as the head coach and general manager for the HBCUnited squad during the annual TBT (The Basketball Tournament).

During his second season, Brown coached highly talented Makur Maker, who became the first 5-star recruit to commit to an Historically Black College or University (HBCU) since ESPN started ranking prospects in 2007.

In his first season, he coached Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Time Leading Scorer Charles Williams where he earned All-MEAC honors. He also witnessed Wayne Bristol, Jr. winning 2019-20 MEAC Rookie of the Year.

Before joining Howard, he spent a season at Columbia as a graduate assistant (2018-19). During that year, he assisted coaches and full-time support staff members in administrative duties deemed necessary by the head coach, aided with preparation for practices, game management for home games and team travel responsibilities, and acted as video coordinator with video edits for scouting reports and recruiting purposes.

During the 2017-18 season, Brown was part of the Muhlenberg men's basketball coaching staff following a stellar career at Middlebury College where he developed scouting reports, conducted video break-down on opposing teams, and assisted the head coach in planning, preparing and conducting practices.

Brown was a four-year member of the Middlebury basketball team and finished his career with 552 assists, one short of the school record. He was the starting point guard for Panther teams that won the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship and won at least one NCAA Tournament game in both 2016 and 2017.

A two-year captain, Brown led the NESCAC and ranked 14th in Division III in assists per game in 2017, earning a spot on the All-NESCAC second team.

He spent the summer of 2017 as Head of Player Development at Alexander Basketball Academy in Pottstown, Pa., coaching and mentoring more than 100 international student-athletes from more than 35 countries.

Brown has also coached basketball in his hometown of Hawley, Pa., and at a clinic in Bermuda while taking part in a Belgium clinic.

In May 2017, Brown graduated from Middlebury with an economics major and political science minor. Two years later (2019), he received his masters degree in Sports Management from Columbia University.
