Kevin Barger joined the Howard University football team in 2019, serving various roles.
In 2025, Barger was promoted to director of football strategy. This season will be Barger’s 25th season coaching and his 22nd on the collegiate level. Over his career Barger has coached 24 all-conference players and three all-americans.
Barger joined the Bison staff after working at Howard’s neighbor across the McMillian reservoir, The Catholic University of America. Barger spent eight years at the Division III program where he served as the defensive line coach (2008-10) and as the offensive line coach (2011-16). During his tenure at Catholic, Barger also served as the special team’s coordinator and strength and conditioning coach.
Barger joined the Cardinals’ staff from another Division III school, Ursinus College in Pennsylvania where he worked for four seasons as the defensive line coach, special teams coordinator and strength and conditioning coach.
Prior to Ursinus, Barger worked for three seasons at FCS member Marist College in Poughkeepsie New York. He coached the outside linebackers (2001-02) before moving over to the defensive line for the 2003 season.
Barger was a four-year starter and two-time all conference defensive tackle at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He received his B.A. in history (2001) and his M.A. in psychology from Marist College (2003).
