In Jan. 2019, Howard University graduate Da’Vaun Johnson was named running backs coach after a one-year stint as the assistant running backs coach and assistant recruiting coordinator.
In 2024, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator, coaching Darius Fox, Jarett Hunter and Tim Artis Jr. to All-MEAC honors. Running Back Anthony Reagan Jr. was named to the FCS Football Central Freshman All-American Team.
In 2023, Johnson saw running backs Eden James and Jarett Hunter earn All-MEAC Second Team honors en route to winning its second straight MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship.
In 2022, he witnessed Jarett Hunter and Eden James make the All-MEAC Team while guiding the program to its first MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) title since 1993.
After the 2021 fall campaign, Johnson coached running backs Ian Wheeler and Jaret Hunter to All-MEAC Team honors.
Johnson saw Dedrick Parson named to the 2019 All-MEAC Second Team, following Parson's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year campaign (2018).
Johnson was a Bison football student-athlete from 2013-17. At Howard, he was a quarterback, running back and tight end. In his final season, he was part of the biggest upset in college football history after Howard defeated UNLV. That same year, the Bison finished with a 7-4 overall mark.
During his matriculation, Johnson volunteered with Washington, D.C., Student Sports Alliance as a fundraising chairperson (2017), the Special Olympics of Washington, D.C., as a trainer (2015-16) and the D.C. AAU Tournament as a site organizer (2015-16).
The Detroit native has volunteered with the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Police Department. Johnson is a member of Sigma Alpha Phi Leadership and Success Organization.
Johnson completed his bachelor’s in sports management from Howard in 2017.
