Brett Kean

In 2025, Brett Kean joined the Howard University Football team as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Before Howard, in 2022, he was a defensive analyst for the Florida Atlantic (FAU) Owls, primarily working with the linebackers and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. The move to FAU reunited Kean with former FAU head coach Willie Taggart, who he played for at USF (South Florida) in 2015-16.

Prior to FAU, Kean served as the quality control coach at Akron (Jan.– March 2022) where he oversaw the creation of the playbook by using Microsoft Visio and created the installation video cutups and play installation.

Before Akron, Kean coached at Independence Community College where he coached the team’s quarterback and was part of a nationally ranked junior college staff. He oversaw all aspects of the quarterback position while playing pivotal role in installation of new offense, along with quarterback development and oversight.

Kean began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Charlotte (Jan. 2020-21) where he focused on all aspects of the team’s offense and more specifically on quarterback development and preparation. He performed weekly scouting recruiting the region, quality control while supporting the offensive coordinator.

He completed his playing career at Charlotte, as a graduate transfer, and was part of the program’s first Bowl Game. Prior to Charlotte, attended USF where he was a part of four-straight bowl teams, capturing one versus South Carolina and a second versus Texas Tech. The Bulls finished consecutive years with AP top-25 finishes (19th and 21st).

Kean hometown is Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and played high school football at St. Edward.
