WASHINGTON (September 16, 2026) – Howard University women's volleyball team returns to action for a pair of nonconference matchups, hosting Georgetown Thursday (Sept. 17) before traveling to nearby George Washington (GW) Saturday (Sept. 19). Match time is set for 6 p.m. against Georgetown and 6:30 p.m. at GW.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The upcoming matchup will be Howard and Georgetown's 11
th meeting with the Hoyas holding a 6-4 advantage. The Bison won the last meeting, sweeping Georgetown, 3-0 (Sept. 1, 2024).

Sydnei Jones (Bridgeville, Pa.) recorded 29 assists and seven digs and libero senior
Gabby Allen (Laurel, Md.) added four digs and two aces.
Saturday's showdown will be the ninth meeting between Howard and George Washington with the Bison holding a 5-3 advantage. Howard won the last meeting, defeating the Revolutionaries, 3-2 (Aug. 29, 2025).

Alexys James (Houston) recorded a double-double (12 kills & 12 digs) in the victory, earning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Week honors following the performance.

Through nine contests, sophomore outside hitter
Addison Buckner (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) leads the Bison attack with 75 kills while Jones tops the team with 161 assists. Senior middle blocker
Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) leads Howard with a .291 hitting percentage.
Over the past two seasons, HU has reached the MEAC Championship match, finishing as the runner-up in both appearances.

GEORGETOWN
Georgetown enters Thursday's matchup with a 6-3 record after falling to UMBC, 3-1, in its most recent contest.
The Hoyas opened the season with wins over American and George Mason before dropping a match to Northwestern. Georgetown later beat Davidson, Wake Forest, Morgan State and Loyola (Md.).
Senior middle blocker Kamryn Lee-Caracci was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team after leading Georgetown with a .376 hitting percentage and 82 blocks last season.
AJ Bonetti enters his fourth season at the Hoyas' helm after leading Georgetown to a 14-15 record last season.
GEORGE WASHINGTON
On Sept. 11-13, GW competed in the Battle of the Beltway, going 3-0 against Loyola (Md.), UMBC and Morgan State. The Revolutionaries defeated UMBC, 3-1, behind 12 kills and eight blocks from Riley Samuel.
Entering the season, George Washington was picked fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll after finishing second in the conference standings last season with a 12-6 league record.
Junior setter Abby Markworth returns after earning Second Team All-Conference honors last season. Markworth led GW with 1,104 assists in 2025 and currently leads the Revolutionaries with 287 assists this season.
Katie Reifert enters her fifth season at the Revolutionaries' helm.
LAST TIMEOUT
On Sept. 13, Howard fell to host Towson, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-16), to close out the Tiger Invitational.
Senior outside hitter
Kennedi Wright (Plano, Texas) led the Bison with seven kills, four digs and a service ace.
Haarachi Umenwaliri (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and
Dayion Johnson (Jasper, Ala.) added five kills. James and Jones combined for 26 assists.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Sept. 24, Howard returns home to Burr Gymnasium to host Coppin State for a Blackout Game. Bison fans are encouraged to come dressed in all black and bring the energy as HU battles the Eagles on its home court.
