WASHINGTON, D.C. — Howard University women's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 0-0 draw against George Washington Wednesday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
The Bison (0-0-1) and Revolutionaries (1-1-1) battled through 90 scoreless minutes, with both teams creating opportunities throughout the match. Howard goalkeeper
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) played a key role in keeping GW off the scoreboard, besting last year's season best of seven by two.
George Washington generated 13 shots, including nine on goal, but Knox consistently shut down the Revolutionaries' chances. The standout goalie made five saves in the opening half before adding four more after halftime.
Howard created several opportunities of its own during a competitive first half.
Demi Owens (Teaneck, NJ),
Amira Dancer (Baltimore, MD) and
Laila Cowsette (Laurel, MD) each recorded a shot during an early stretch, while
Imani Kissi (Dublin, OH) added a pair of attempts before halftime.
The Revolutionaries continued to test Knox immediately after the break, but she stopped another attempt from the Revolutionaries' lead striker just seconds into the second period.
Howard answered with opportunities of its own.
Jaidyn Curry (Lorton, VA) put a shot on target in the 49th minute before Kissi forced a save from the Revolutionary in goal in the 59th minute.
The Bison continued to create chances late in the match, including an attempt from
Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, MD) in the 81st minute and a pair of corner kicks during the final 10 minutes. George Washington nearly broke through in the 87th minute, but Knox denied the shot to preserve the shutout.
Neither team could find the decisive goal in the closing minutes, sending the season opener to a 0-0 draw.
Howard finished with nine shots, including two on goal, while George Washington held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bison return to action Saturday, Aug. 22, when Howard faces Hampton at Audi Field as part of the HBCU Invitational. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
