Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at North Carolina Central

Holt reaches milestone

CARY, N.C. (April 3, 2026) – Howard University softball team swept rival North Carolina Central (NCCU) Friday afternoon in Cary, N.C. HU won game one in five innings, 11-0, followed by a 11-3 victory in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Howard 11, NCCU 0 (f/5)

HU pounded out 11 runs on 14 hits, led by freshman Amirah Lenon (Chandler, Ariz.) going a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with three runs scored and stolen base.

Howard recorded five runs on six hits in the second frame after a scoreless opening inning, highlighted by a two-run single from junior Wisdom Colbert (Jacksonville, Fla.), 5-0.

Next inning, HU capitalized on NCCU's miscues with three more scores; thus, extending the margin, 8-0.

Rookie Na'khia Lee (La Mesa, Calif.) delivered an RBI- bunt, bringing home senior Maryn Jordan (San Diego), 9-0. Next at-bat, newcomer Aniyah Whipper (Elk Grove, Calif.) drilled a two-run double to right center and put the game out-of-reach, 11-0.

Colbert and Lee each had two hits while Whipper registered a game-high three RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Aiko Conaway (Haymarket, Va.) earned her sixth win of the season, going 3.1 innings with three strikeouts.

Game 2 - Howard 11, NCCU 3 (f/6)

In the nightcap, HU racked up 11 runs on 17 hits with four Bison recording multi-hit performances.

After capitalizing on an unearned run in the first frame, Howard extended its lead with a five-run inning in the second, 6-0.

Bottom three, NCCU responded with three scores and trimmed the margin to a three-run game, 6-3.

Whipper and reigning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Year graduate Taylor Ames-Alexander (Lancaster, S.C.) delivered RBI-doubles in the fifth and sixth, pushing the lead back to five runs after five innings, 8-3.

HU posted three more runs in the six innings 11-3; thus, cutting the contests short due to the mercy rule.

MEAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) secured her third win of the season off the bench, tossing 3.1 innings with four Ks. In her efforts, the Arizona native reached 200 strikeouts in her illustrious career.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
