NEW YORK (March 4, 2026) – Howard University women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome an early first quarter deficit, falling to Columbia, 23-6, in New York City.
Columbia (4-1) outscored the Bison, 8-1, in the opening frame and never looked back.
Freshman midfielder
Sophia Lima (Altadena, Calif.) got HU on the board with an assist from fellow classmate midfielder
Alyssa Charles (East Islip, N.Y.).
HU (1-5) scored four times in the second period, led by graduate attacker
Sawyer Walker (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) with two goals. Lima and sophomore attacker
Taylor Harris (Kennesaw, Ga.) also registered goals, but the Lions held a 14-5 advantage into halftime.
Columbia outscored Howard after intermission, 9-1, despite Walker recording a hat trick in the third quarter.
Defensively, senior attacker
Chase Coleman (Houston) caused two turnovers.
Emma Row led the Lions with eight points (five assists & three goals), followed by Cecelia Messner and Maddie Brogan with six points apiece in the win.
On March 10, HU continues its road swing in Fairfax, Va., against George Mason. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
