DOVER, Del. – Howard University lacrosse (2-8, 1-2 NEC) delivered a commanding performance Wednesday evening, rolling past Delaware State (0-9, 0-2), 13-3, at Drass Field in NEC action.
The Bison wasted no time asserting control, erupting for six goals in the opening quarter and never looking back. Howard outshot the Hornets 33-19 and held a decisive 20-9 advantage in shots on goal en route to their largest margin of victory in the all-time series.
Sophomore midfielder
Leah Croom (Falmouth, MA) led the charge with a game-high four goals, tying her career best. She opened the scoring just 1:32 into the matchup and added another later in the first quarter as part of Howard's early 6-0 run.
Freshman midfielder
Sophia Lima (Altadena, CA) continued her standout play, recording her second consecutive hat trick after notching her first collegiate three-goal performance against Le Moyne last Saturday. Lima finished with three goals and three assists, pacing the Bison with six points while playing a key role in Howard's offensive rhythm.
The Bison saw contributions across the board, with freshman attacker
Ryan Davis (Houston, TX) adding two goals, while senior attacker
Tea Vasquez (Oakland, CA) chipped in a pair of scores. Graduate student attacker
Sawyer Walker (Rehoboth Beach, DE) and junior attacker
Chloe Ronsholdt (Stafford, VA) each found the back of the net as well, highlighting a well-balanced attack that featured seven different Bison goal scorers.
Howard maintained pressure throughout the contest, capitalizing on player-up opportunities with multiple man-up goals in the first half. The Bison also controlled possession, winning 11 draw controls and successfully clearing 15 of 17 attempts.
Defensively, Howard held Delaware State (0-9, 0-2 MEAC) scoreless in both the first and fourth quarters. Freshman goalkeeper
London James-Golas (Annapolis, MD) anchored the unit with eight saves, helping limit the Hornets to just three goals on the night.
After taking an 8-2 lead into halftime, Howard added five more goals across the final two periods to secure the decisive victory. The Bison's 13 goals mark their highest scoring output of the season.
With the win, Howard earns its second straight victory over Delaware State and records its largest margin of victory in series history.
The Bison return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they host FDU in Greene Stadium at 12 p.m.
