DOVER, Del. (March 22, 2026) – Howard University softball swept Delaware State (DSU) in a three-game series behind a potent offense and strong pitching at DSU Softball Field. The Bison outscored the Hornets, 26-5, across the series to secure their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series of the season.
Game 1 - Howard 7, Delaware State 0
After a stalemate in the first, Howard opened the scoring in the second inning when junior infielder
Wisdom Colbert (Jacksonville, Fla.) delivered an RBI-bunt single, bringing in junior utility
Angel Riggins (San Diego), 1-0.
The Bison added to their lead in the third as graduate infielder
Taylor Ames-Alexander (Lancaster, S.C.) drove in reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) with an RBI double, 2-0.
Senior outfielder
Maryn Jordan (San Diego) delivered a two-run single in the fourth, plating rookie outfielders
Amirah Lenon (Chandler, Ariz.) and
Ariyah Allen (Converse, Texas), 4-0.
Jordan capped her standout performance in the sixth inning, blasting a three-run home run to center field, giving Howard a 7-0 advantage. She finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead all hitters.
Sophomore pitcher
Aiko Conaway (Haymarket, Va.) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out two Hornets in the win.
Colbert and Lenon each added multi-hit performances as the Bison totaled 12 hits in the win.
Game 2 - Howard 10, Delaware State 1 (5 innings)
Howard's offense stayed hot in game two, erupting for 10 runs on 13 hits to secure the run-rule victory.
The Bison wasted no time getting on the board as Ames-Alexander delivered an RBI-double in the first inning for Jordan to cross the plate, 1-0.
Howard plated seven runs on eight hits in the second frame. Lenon sparked the rally with an RBI-single before Jordan followed with another run-scoring hit. Lenon later stole home as part of the inning's aggressive baserunning effort.
Junior catcher
Makyia Taylor (Temecula, Calif.) and fellow classmate infielder
Cheyenne Castille (Eastvale, Calif.) each recorded RBI-singles while Colbert added another RBI to her stats. Lenon also notched a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning.
Jones contributed in the third inning with an RBI-single and later scored on a passed ball to extend the lead, 10-0.
Jordan continued her strong day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Colbert, Castille and freshman outfielder
Na'khia Lee (La Mesa, Calif.) each recorded multiple hits.
In the circle, senior pitcher
Destiny Calloway (Evington, Va.) earned the win, combining with fellow senior
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) and rookie
Hope Uzzle (Staten Island, N.Y.) to toss a no-hitter over five innings, allowing just one unearned run.
Game 3 - Howard 9, Delaware State 4
Howard completed the sweep with a 9-4 victory Sunday, using a fast start and late-inning surge to secure the final victory.
Taylor opened the scoring in the first inning with a sac fly, followed by an RBI single from Lee and a bases-loaded walk by Lenon to make it a quick 3-0. Delaware State answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead, 3-1.
Ames-Alexander fired the Bison back up, delivering an RBI-double in the fourth to extend the lead, 4-1.
Colbert showcased daring baserunning in the fifth, stealing home to push the advantage, 5-1.
After leaving one Hornet on base, the Bison plated four runs in the top of the sixth. Freshman infielder
Aniyah Whipper (Elk Grove, Calif.) sparked the rally with a single before Ames-Alexander reached on an error to bring in a run. Castille added a sacrifice fly and senior utility
Zafirah Doss (Hayward, Calif.) drove in another run as Howard capitalized on defensive miscues to extend the lead, 9-1.
Delaware State mounted a brief rally in the sixth, scoring three runs, but the Bison bullpen held firm. Conaway earned the win after 5.1 innings of work while Calloway and Holt combined to close out the game.
Jordan continued her dominant weekend at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Ames-Alexander tallied two hits and two RBIs. Colbert added two hits and scored twice in the victory.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard returns home to host South Carolina State Saturday (March 28) in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., followed by the series finale Sunday (March 29) at noon. The three-game series takes place at the Nationals Youth Academy.
