MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Howard University women's golf delivered a dominant performance to win the ASU Spring Classic, hosted by Alabama State University, finishing +15 overall (879) to claim the team title.
Competing at Arrowhead Country Club, the Bison posted rounds of 291–290–298 on the par-72 course measuring 6,852 yards, finishing 67 strokes ahead of the field.
Howard Bison led from start to finish pacing the field in birdies (35) and pars (175) while also finishing first in Par-3 scoring (3.18), Par-4 scoring (4.19) and Par-5 scoring (4.88). The Bison also recorded the fewest double bogeys (4) among all seven competing teams.
Individually, sophomore Lena Durette led the way for the Bison, capturing her first collegiate tournament title with a three-round score of 219 (+3) after posting rounds of 75–71–73.
HU placed three additional golfers inside the top eight.
Freshman Marley Franklin finished second overall at 220 (+4) with rounds of 70–72–78, while Morgan Horrell placed third at 221 (+5) after carding 72–74–75. Senior Paris Fieldings secured a fifth-place finish with a score of 223 (+7), shooting 74–75–74 across the tournament.
Junior Laniah Moffett rounded out Howard's scoring lineup with a top-eight finish, tying for eighth place at 229 (+13).
Howard's depth and consistency proved to be the difference throughout the tournament as the Bison placed four players inside the top eight and maintained the tournament's lowest overall scoring average.
With the victory, Howard continues to build momentum during the spring portion of its schedule.
