WASHINGTON (February 7, 2026) – Junior guard
Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) scored a game-high 24 points and graduate guard
Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) collected 23 points to lead the Howard University men's basketball team to an 85-57 win over South Carolina State (SC State) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest at Burr Gymnasium.
The win was the third straight for the Bison (15-9, 5-3 MEAC). The Bulldogs (6-17, 4-3 MEAC) had their three-game win streak snapped.
On Jan. 3, Howard had dropped a tough 58-57 decision to the Bulldogs in Orangeburg. The two-headed prong attack of Taylor and Harris made sure that there was not going to be a repeat.
Taylor, a transfer from Morehouse College, has really come on strong for Howard after sitting out the first 11 games with a broken hand. For the night, he was 6-of-12 from the floor and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line while also collecting six rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks in 33 minutes of play.
Harris, a leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, complemented Taylor by going 8-of-10 from the floor, grabbing seven rebounds and getting three blocks.
The two fueled a 13-0 run in the first half that led to a 36-24 halftime lead.
In the second half, the duo took turns scoring on a variety of strong moves and power dunks that SC State did not have an answer for.
The Bison are displaying their supporting cast. Sophomore guard
Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.) added 11 points off the bench in 15 minutes and junior guards
Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) and
Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) each chipped in with nine points apiece. Gillus ran the show and finished with a game-high eight assists. Cotton, the team's best long ball shooter, was 3-of-6 from the arc while finding time to grab five rebounds to help his team maintain a 40-30 rebounding advantage.
For the game, the Bison shot 51-percent (26-of-51), won the points in the paint battle, 38-20, forced 17 turnovers and unselfishly were credited with 22 assists on 26 field goals.
The Bulldogs were led by Noah Treadwell with a team-high 13 points off the bench and Jayden Johnson netted 11 points in a losing cause.
NEXT UP: Howard has a quick turnaround as it hosts Yale in the final nonconference game of the season Monday (Feb. 9). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
