Henigan Leads Women’s Basketball in Road Win at Morgan State

Bison push win streak to 10

BALTIMORE (February 28, 2026) ---Freshman guard Ariella Henigan (Chicago) poured in a career-high 21 points to lead four Bison in double figures as the Howard University womens basketball team used a strong third quarter run to put away Morgan State University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Hill Field House.

The win was the 10th straight for the streaking Bison, who face a critical matchup at Norfolk State Thursday (March 5) at 5:30 p.m. Howard (22-7, 12-1 MEAC) is a game ahead of the Spartans, who have won six-in-a-row since losing to the Bison earlier this season (Jan. 31). A win would give HU the regular season title.  A victory by Norfolk State would create a tie for first place.

Henigan has had some big games for the Bison during this run. But over the past four games coming into this matchup, she had struggled, scoring only 16 points with limited minutes. But somehow, the fiery and talented guard redeemed herself, connecting on 5-of-6 from the floor, including 2-of-2 from downtown, and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. She also found time to get two assists and two steals.

Senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland), the leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, had yet another of her signature games, scoring 22 points to lead her team. The Cleveland native was 9-of-17 from the floor. Thomas, who ranks among the nation leaders in going to the free throw line, just missed a double-double with eight rebounds.

Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.), the team' second leading scorer at 12.0 points per game, finished with 11 points. But the junior transfer put future Bison opponents on notice that she has other ways that she can impact the game. The Indiana product dished out a career-and team-high eight assists while also grabbing a personal best seven rebounds.

Redshirt sophomore guard April Edwards (Little Rock, Ark.), who is coming a career-high 22 points in the win over Coppin State (Feb. 26), showed that she is going to be a strong factor in Howard's quest for the title. She contributed 12 points, most coming during the Bison's third quarter push. It is the third time in four games that Edwards has reached double figures.

It must be noted that Howard played most of the game without All-MEAC selection senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.), who played only eight minutes, a career low. Miller, a candidate for MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, averages a little over 7.0 points per game, but it is her defense and rebounding that plays a major role in the vaunted Bison's defense. She ranks among the conference best in steals, blocked shots and rebounds.

For the game, the Bison held a 45-38 advantage on the boards, 34-22 edge in the paint and assisted on 17 of the Bison's 31 field goals.

Morgan State (4-25, 2-10 MEAC) got a game-high from Kailyn Nash with 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting, 12 points from Jael Butts and 11 points from Ja'la Bannerman off the Bears bench.

NEXT UP: Howard travels to Norfolk, Va., to take on the second-place Spartans Thursday (March 5) at 5:30 p.m. It ends the regular season for both teams with the MEAC Tournament kicking off Wednesday (March 11) at the Norfolk Scope Arena.
