Women’s Hoops Clashes with NCCU Saturday

Bison seeking another home win against Eagles

WASHINGTON (February 20, 2026) – Howard University women's basketball team looks to extend its season-long win streak when it hosts North Carolina Central (NCCU) Saturday at 2:30 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium.
 
A win would give the Bison their third 20-plus win season since 2021. More importantly, it would maintain its first-place edge with three games remaining in the regular season

The Eagles are coming off a 68-65 win at South Carolina State Wednesday (Feb. 18). Reserve Aniya Finger recorded a double-double (11 points & 10 rebounds) in the victory.
 
HOWARD
 
Saturday (Feb. 14), redshirt sophomore guard April Edwards (Little Rock, Ark.) scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Bison to a 66-45 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore at Burr Gymnasium.

THE COACHES
 
NCCU is coached by Terrence Baxter (Pfeiffer, '01), who is in his fifth season. Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 11th season and the second winningest coach in school history.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard has won four-in-a-row in the series, including this year's 69-61 win in Durham (Jan. 17). In that game, senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) led the Bison with a double-double (19 points & 11 rebounds) in the victory. The Eagles were led by Morgan Callahan with 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
 
The Eagles last win was 70-64, in overtime (February 17, 2024).
 
Howard leads the series 18-5, dating back to 2011.

In the MEAC, the Eagles rank first in three-point shooting percentage (31- percent) and assists (11.96)…Individually, Callahan is having her best all-around season, ranking second in rebounding (7.4), fifth in steals, sixth in scoring and 10th in blocks…Finger is seventh in field goal shooting percentage (42-percent) and 10th in rebounding (5.7)…Aysia Hinton is second in three-pointers made per game (2.3) and fourth in three-point shooting…Najah Lane leads the MEAC in assists/turnover ratio…Dianna Blake ranks sixth in blocks…The Eagles have had problems at the free throw line where they are shooting 62 percent, last in the conference…Finger recently became the school's all-time scoring leader.
 
HOWARD
 
Howard leads the conference in scoring (66.0), field goal shooting percentage (40-percent), free throw shooting percentage (73-percent), turnover margin and assists/turnover…Some of Howard's success in close victories has been its free throw shooting, converting on 73-percent from the charity stripe…Nationally, Thomas, a strong candidate for MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Player of the Year, is ninth in free throws attempts and 15th in free throws made.…In conference play, Thomas leads the MEAC in scoring and rebounding…Thomas and follow classmate forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) are preseason First Team All-MEAC selections…Thomas has reached double figures in all but three games this season and has recorded six double doubles…Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) ranks third in field goal shooting percentage (43-percent) and three-point shooting percentage (34-percent), seventh in scoring (12.2 ppg) and 10th in three pointers made per game…Miller leads the MEAC in field goal shooting (48-percent)…Junior forward Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) is ninth in blocked shots…Junior guard Destiny Bynum-Johnson (Newark, N.J.) is seventh in three pointers made per game and ninth in three-point shooting percentage (30-percent)…A victory over NCCU will give Coach Grace her third 20-win season during her tenure at Howard…The Bison currently hold sole possession of first place with four games remaining before the MEAC Tournament (March 11-14) in Norfolk, Va.…Edwards currently holds the highest free throw shooting percentage in Howard history at 91-percent, missing only one free throw all season…Edwards' 9-for-9 performance versus Maryland Eastern Shore (Feb. 14) was a career best in a Bison uniform...The Bison are undefeated (9-0) at home this season.
