Men’s Basketball Takes on Delaware State Monday Night

Bison on the road to Dover

DOVER, Del. (February 15, 2026) – Howard University men's basketball team is looking to extend its win streak and remain within striking distance of first place when it takes on the Hornets of Delaware State (DSU) Monday (Feb. 16) at Memorial Hall. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

COACHES
 
Howard (16-10, 6-3 MEAC) is led by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is his sixth season. Delaware State is coached by Stan Waterman (Delaware, '89), who is in his fourth year at the helm.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Earlier this season, Howard defeated the Hornets, 84-58, inside Burr Gymnasium (Jan. 12). The Bison got balanced scoring, led by senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) and sophomore forward Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.) with 16 points apiece.
 
DSU last defeated the Bison, 90-69, in Dover (Feb. 15, 2025).
 
Howard holds a slim 17-16 advantage since the 2005-06 season.

Saturday (Feb. 14), junior guard Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) poured in a game-high 22 points and graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) added 17 points to lead the Bison to a 79-53 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) at Burr Gymnasium.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
DSU (6-18, 1-8 MEAC) is coming off a 75-58 road loss at Norfolk State Saturday (Feb. 14), extending its losing streak to three. Dean Shepherd led the way with 16 points off the Hornets bench.

Howard leads the MEAC in scoring defense (68.3 ppg), field goal shooting defense (41-percent), offensive rebounding (12.3), assists (15.5), blocks (3.6) and rebounding margin…Individually, Harris leads the conference in rebounding (6.9)…Junior guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) is third in assists (4.5) and steals and fourth in assists/turnover…Junior guard Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) is fifth in three-pointers made per game (2.0)…Okojie is sixth in steals…As a team, the Bison rank 18th, nationally, in turnovers forced per game…Nationally, Harris is tied for 26th in free throws made and tied for 36th in free throws attempts…Harris and Taylor have been on a tear of late, in the past five games, Harris has connected 34-of-56 from the field and 32-of-41 from the free throw line and has reached double figures in eight straight games…Harris has also 11 blocks during that span…Taylor, who missed the first 11 games, has been equally impressive, hitting of 31-of-56 from the floor and 47-of-52 from the charity stripe in the past five contests… Taylor, III has also dished out 17 assists, recorded 12 steals and blocked nine shots...Gillus has dished out 33 assists in the past five games and has eclipsed the century mark with over 113 dimes…Cotton has also come on strong of late; the junior sharpshooter is 14-of-35 from beyond the arc the past five games…Incidentally, Harris is approaching a milestone of 1,500 points and 700 rebounds in his career…Taylor has connected on 30 straight free throws, dating back four games.

In the MEAC, the Hornets rank in steals (8.1)…James Ponce is second in steals, third in free throw shooting percentage (86-percent), fifth in assists/turnover ratio, sixth in scoring (14.2 ppg) and assists and seventh in three-point shooting percentage…Miles Webb is third in rebounding (6.2)…Corey Perkins is eighth in assists and assists/turnover ratio.
