Men’s Basketball Takes on Coppin State in Baltimore

Bison looking to stay hot against Eagles

WASHINGTON (February 1, 2026) – Howard University men's basketball team are looking to extend its current win streak when it travels to Baltimore to take on the Eagles of Coppin State University (CSU) Monday (Feb. 2) in the Physical Education Center (4,100). Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.

COACHES
 
Howard is led by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his seventh season. Coppin State is coached by Larry Stewart (Coppin State, '06), who is in his third year at the helm.
 
THE SERIES
 
Last year (Feb. 24, 2025), Coppin State defeated Howard, 72-61, in Baltimore to snap a five-game losing skid to the Bison. The Eagles lead the series, 48-29, dating back to 1986.

Saturday (Jan. 31), guards Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) and Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) each scored 27 points to lead the Bison to an 88-60 win over Norfolk State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Burr Gymnasium.
 
COPPIN STATE
 
On Jan. 31, five Eagles scored in double figures, but CSU fell to Morgan State, 89-80, at PEC Arena. DeMariontay Hall had a team-high 12 points in just 18 minutes before fouling out.

Howard leads the MEAC in scoring defense (69.5 ppg), field goal shooting defense (42-percent), offensive rebounding (12.3) and rebounding margin…Individually, Harris leads the conference in rebounding (7.0)…Junior guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) is third in steals, fourth in assists, fifth in assists/turnover ratio and ninth in free throw shooting percentage (74-percent)…Junior guard Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) is sixth in three-point shooting percentage… senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) ranks eighth in steals…freshman guard Jeremiah Johnson (Potomac, Md.) is seventh in steals…Nationally Harris continues to make his mark as a national player, tying for 35th in free throws made and tied for 42nd in free throw attempts…Monday (Jan. 26), Taylor was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts against Morehouse College (Jan. 19) and Morgan State (Jan. 24).
