Men’s Hoops Continues MEAC Road Swing at UMES

Bison seeking first conference win against Maryland Eastern Shore

WASHINGTON (January 9, 2026) – Howard University men's basketball team wraps up its MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) road swing Saturday (Jan. 10) at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m., at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center (5,500).

COACHES
 
Howard is coached by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his seventh season. UMES is led by Cleo Hill Jr. (North Carolina Central, '88), who is in his second season.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard (9-7, 0-1 MEAC) has won six-in-a-row, including the 86-62 victory last year (February 17, 2025) inside Burr Gymnasium. The Hawks last win against HU was a 78-69 victory in Princess Anne (January 9, 2023). Howard has won nine-of-the-last-10 meetings to lead the series, 19-10, since 2006.

Saturday (Jan. 3), South Carolina State edged the Bison, 58-57, in a MEAC opener at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Gymnasium. Senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) tallied 13 of his team-high 18 points after intermission on 6-of-11 shooting.
 
UMES
 
UMES (5-13, 1-0 MEAC) is coming off a 66-49-win over Morgan State at home Saturday (Jan. 3) in its MEAC opener. Dorian Staples led the way with 16 points.

Graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) has established himself as one of the best players in the country, currently 20th, nationally, in free throws made and 40th in total points…In the MEAC, the frontrunner for MEAC Player of the Year ranks second in scoring, rebounding and blocks, third field goal percentage, fourth in free throws made and minutes per game and fifth in steals…Junior guard Alex Cotton (Carrollton, Texas) ranks fourth in three pointers made per game (2.4)…Junior guard Cam Gillus (Falls Church, Va.) is third in steals, fourth in assists, seventh in free throw percentage and ninth in three pointers made per game…Okojie is eighth in steals…Freshman guard Jeremiah Johnson (Potomac, Md.) is seventh in steals per game…As a team, the Bison lead the MEAC in blocked shots and three pointers made per game…Nationally, Howard is 28th in turnovers forced per game.
