WASHINGTON (January 8, 2026) – Redshirt junior guard
Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) and senior forward
Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) each scored 14 points to help the Howard University women's basketball team pull away to a 73-63 win over Delaware State University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Burr Gymnasium.
It was the second straight conference win for the Bison while the Hornets dropped their 10
th consecutive game.
Delaware State (3-14, 0-2 MEAC) came out and established its game, taking an eight-point lead before the Bison rallied to cut the deficit, 20-15, at the end of the first stanza. Erica Huggins and Liliana Harrison led the charge for the Hornets as they took turns hitting their shots after getting good looks at the basket.
In the second quarter, Howard began to utilize its deep bench and stepped up its vaunted full court press. It resulted into a 39-35 advantage at the half and seemed to set the tone after intermission.
Stewart took charge, scoring her team's first seven points that opened a 46-35 lead at the 8:05 mark.
Senior forward
Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) would add two free throws as the Bison outscored their opponent, 9-0.
The Hornets were able to finally get on the board at the 7:20 mark. But then, it was Thomas' turn as she scored seven of her team's next nine points as the lead ballooned, 59-42, late into the third.
The Hornets tried to rally and cut into the deficit, but their efforts were repelled by Thomas, Stewart and reserves
April Edwards (Little Rock, Ark.),
Jada Kendrick (Thomson, Ga.) and
Ariella Henigan (Chicago).
The Hornets would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way as the Bison sealed the victory.
Thomas added four boards, three assists and a blocked shots to her stat line.
Stewart shot 6-of-10 with three steals and two assists in the win.
Miller had yet another solid game with eight points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
For the game, Howard shot 51-percent (27-of-53) from the field, recorded 15 assists on 27 baskets while getting seven steals and five blocked shots on the defensive end.
For Delaware State, Harrison notched 14 points and Amya Scott added 13 points off the bench. Erica Higgins and Jermesha Frierson each posted 10 points in the loss.
