Women’s Basketball Faces Morgan State Saturday

Beltway rivals meet inside The Burr

WASHINGTON (January 23, 2026) – Howard University women's basketball team seeks to extend its two-game win streak when it hosts Morgan State (MSU) Saturday (Jan. 24) in a MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) clash. Tipoff at 11 a.m., inside Burr Gymnasium.

Thursday (Jan. 22), senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) scored a game-high 22 points and had one of her best all-around performances of the year to lead the Bison to a 64-51 win over Coppin State at the Physical Education Complex Arena.
 
MORGAN STATE
 
The Bears (3-18, 2-3 MEAC) are coming off a 78-52 road loss at Norfolk State Thursday (Jan. 22). Senior center Jael Butler came off the bench to lead the Bears with 18 points and six rebounds.

THE COACHES
 
Morgan State is coached by Nadine Domond (Iowa, '98), who is in her first season at the helm. Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 11th season and the second winningest coach in school history.

Howard has won six-in-a-row, the most recent a 62-53 win last year in Baltimore (February 22, 2025). The Bears last won, 71-49, in D.C. (January 21, 2023).

Howard is holding opponents to 26-percent shooting from three and allowing only 63 points per game…Some of Howard's success in close victories has been its free throw shooting, converting on 71-percent from the charity stripe…The vaunted Howard defense continues to be its staple, holding its last nine opponents to under 66 points…Nationally, senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) is tied for 33rd in total steals…Thomas, the early leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, is tied for fourth nationally in free throw attempts and tied for 19th in free throw made …Howard is the preseason pick to win the MEAC…Miller and Thomas are preseason First Team All-MEAC selections…Thomas has reached double figures in all but three games this season and has recorded seven double doubles…In the MEAC, Howard leads the conference in scoring offense (65.0 ppg), field goal shooting percentage (39-percent), assists, assists/turnover ratio, free throw shooting percentage (71-percent) and three-point shooting percentage defense (27-percent)…Individually, Thomas leads the MEAC in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (45-percent)…Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) ranks eighth in scoring (12.0 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (42-percent) and ninth in three pointers made…Miller is third in steals, fifth in blocked shots and ninth in rebounding…Freshman guard Ariella Henigan (Chicago) is fourth in free throw shooting percentage (80-percent) and ninth in assists…Junior forward Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) is ninth in blocks…It must be noted that Howard has played the past four games without the services of junior guard Destiny Bynum-Johnson (Newark, N.J.), who is out definitely with an injury.…Henigan has scored in double figures seven-of-the-last-eight games while recording 25 assists during that stretch…Howard is the only team in the MEAC with an overall winning record…Howard is undefeated at home (5-0) this season.
