Men’s Hoops Takes On Morehouse in Annual MLK Day Classic

Bison host Maroon Tigers at The Burr

WASHINGTON (January 18, 2026) – Howard University men's basketball team returns to The Burr (2,700) Monday (Jan. 19) for the annual MLK Day Classic against Morehouse College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., live on ESPN+.

COACHES
 
Morehouse is coached by Larry Dixon (J.C. Smith, '96), who is in his first season at the helm. Howard is led by Kenneth Blakeney (Duke, '95), who is in his seventh season.
 
THE SERIES
 
This is the fourth meeting between the two programs. Last year (January 20, 2025), Morehouse pulled off the upset and defeated the Bison, 79-72, inside Burr Gymnasium. In that game, it was Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta), who was a member of the victorious Morehouse team, with 17 points and seven rebounds.
 
HU won the previous two matchups, 79-76 (January 15, 2024) and 89-65 (January 16, 2023), to lead the series, 2-1.  The last two games have been decided by a total of 10 points.

Saturday (Jan. 17), graduate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead four Bison in double figures as HU used a second-half scoring surge to down North Carolina Central University, 83-69, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at McDougal-McLendon Arena.
 
MOREHOUSE
 
The Maroon Tigers (10-7, 10-3 SIAC) come into the game as one of the hottest teams in NCAA Division II, riding a six-game win streak following an 86-64 win over Clark Atlanta Saturday (Jan. 17). Morehouse was led by senior guard JerMonte Hill with 18 points and six rebounds.
