Bryson, Okojie Lead Men’s Hoops to First Conference Win

Bison roll past Delaware State

WASHINGTON (January 12, 2026) –Sophomore forward Travelle Bryson (Anderson, S.C.) and senior guard Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada) each scored 16 points to lead four Bison in double figures as the Howard University men's basketball pulled away to an 84-58 win over Delaware State University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) clash at Burr Gymnasium.

The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Bison (10-8, 1-2 MEAC), who captured their first conference win of the season.

Bryson and Okojie set the tone early as they benefitted from some of the best passing of the season. Both Bison combined for 4-of-7 from the field with nine and eight points, respectively, to give Howard a 38-25 lead at the half.

While the Bison team defense played a major role in the first half, limiting the Hornets to 36-percent shooting (9-of-25), the second half was even more impressive. The defense held the visitors scoreless early in the second half, using a 13-0 run over a 4:30 period to essentially put the game away.

While it was a complete team effort by the defense, perhaps the most telling part was the individual effort against Delaware State's prolific sophomore guard James Ponce, who came into the game following a 22-point effort. But Okojie proved to be more than effective against Ponce as he used his length and athleticism to prevent penetration or good looks at the basket.

Pounce did finish with 17 points but missed 8-of-12 from the floor and got most of his points from the free throw line where he was a perfect 7-for-7.

Howard junior guard Cedric Taylor III (Atlanta) had another outstanding all-around game for the Bison with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, along with a team-high six rebounds and two blocks.

Freshman center Danas Kazakevičius (Vilnius, Lithuania), who has struggled at times of late, came off the bench to have a solid performance with 12 points in 24 minutes of playing time.

For the game, Howard shot 55-percent (29-of-53), made 21-of-27 from the free throw line (78-percent) and recorded a season-best 21 assists on 29 made baskets.

The Hornets were led by Miles Webb, who led all scorers with 19 points, followed by James (17 points).

NEXT UP: The Bison seek their second conference win when they travel to Durham, N.C., to take on the Eagles of North Carolina Central Saturday (Jan. 17) at 4:30 p.m.
