Women’s Soccer Begins NEC Play at Blue Devils

Bison battle Central Connecticut State Sunday

WASHINGTON (September 21, 2025) – After a hard-fought loss at home Sunday (Sept. 14), the Howard University women's soccer team (2-4-1) is ready to reset and refocus as they open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on the road. The Bison travel to New Britain, Conn., for a Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon clash against Central Connecticut State University (0-4-2, 0-0-1 NEC). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Howard looks to bounce back after a narrow 2-1 loss to La Salle Sunday at Greene Stadium.
 
Despite trailing early, the Bison fought back with an equalizer in the 75th minute by Gabriella Garcia-Terrell (Centreville, Va.), assisted by Rachel Suttle (Smyrna, Ga.).
 
The Bison defense limited La Salle to just three second-half shots before a late penalty kick secured the win for the Explorers.
 
Suttle led the offensive push with two shots on target and Trinity Knox (Atlanta) recorded six saves in a full 90-minute performance in goal.
 
CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE
 
CCSU (Central Connecticut State) opened NEC play with a high-scoring 3-3 draw against Wagner Thursday (Sept. 18).
 
The Blue Devils got on the board with goals from Kayla Ward, Hannah Dorney and Luci Schroeder. Ward finished with a goal and an assist to lead the attack.
 
Schroeder's second-half free kick gave CCSU a brief 3-2 advantage before Wagner leveled the match late. The game marked a season high in goals scored for Central, who enters Sunday still in search of their first win.
 
Melina Ford made one save in net for CCSU while the team recorded 16 total shots, eight of which were on frame.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Howard fell, 2-1, at home to La Salle, conceding a late penalty after equalizing in the 75th minute. Garcia-Terrell netted her first goal of the season and Knox made six stops in net.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard returns to Greene Stadium for its NEC home opener Thursday (Sept. 25) at 7 p.m., against Wagner College. The match will stream live on NEC Front Row.
