NORFOLK, Va. (September 1, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women's volleyball weekly honors where Howard University freshman standout
Alexys James (Houston) won the league's rookie of the week. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
James made an immediate impact for Howard in her collegiate debut, totaling 25 assists, 25 digs, 10 service aces and four three blocks across the weekend. She opened the season with a double-double (12 kills & 12 digs) in a five-set win over George Washington (Aug. 29), adding six aces, two assists and two total blocks in the victory.
Seniors
Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.),
Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) and
Claire Simpson (Plainfield, Ill.) each received honorable mention for their efforts against George Washington, George Mason (Aug. 30) and Virginia (Aug. 31).
Delaware State's Gerren Tomlin was named MEAC Player of the Week while Morgan State's Isabelle Brown was selected Setter of the Week. Coppin State's Coco Figueroa took home the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bison return to action on Sept. 4 when they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the UNF Invitational where they battle against Harvard (Sept. 5), Presbyterian College (Sept. 6) and host North Florida (Sept. 7).
