“Where Are They Now?” Featuring Cedrick Dickens

Former Bison standout turned educator

WASHINGTON (June 5, 2025) - Cedrick Dickens exemplifies the meaning of perseverance, purpose and service. In fall 1997, he took a leap of faith by transferring to Howard University and the following year, he earned a walk-on position with the Bison football team through his determination and athleticism.

By the end of that year, he earned a reputation on the football field as an impressive special-teams player and reliable reserve cornerback, embodying the resilience, tenacity and teamwork that Howard represented.

After Howard, Cedrick used his talents to positively influence young people's lives.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Howard and a master's from Liberty University Seminary.

With a heart for education and faith, Cedrick became a secondary content specialist for health and physical education in Montgomery County Public Schools where he is in charge of the supervision and instruction of the Health and Physical Education at his assigned location.

Cedrick's journey in education has traversed various institutions where he has been a teacher and coach in several schools, including Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science and an adjunct professor at Bowie State University.

Throughout the course of his work, Cedrick has always had student growth at the forefront of his intention, using sports and education to help develop and mentor students in their lives.

In addition to his educational work, Cedrick is an active leader in his community and church. He often speaks and preaches at his church and local juvenile detention centers. During these times of preaching, he shares his journey and experience and gives hope for transformation through faith. Cedrick also volunteered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a coach, helping to mentor young athletes within a spiritual and athletic context.

Cedrick prides himself on being a family man. He and his wife, Princess, are both proud graduates of Howard while raising three daughters with the same values of faith, service and education that form the core of Cedrick's trajectory.

Dickens' life exemplifies perseverance, education's power and faith-based service's significance.

He is a personal and purpose-centered leader, from the football field at Howard to the classrooms and pulpits of his community.
