WASHINGTON (April 30, 2025) – Howard University Department of Athletics continued its senior spotlight series, featuring junior marketing major
Kasey Napper catching up with MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Champion
Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) from the women's volleyball team.
Q: What made you choose Howard University and how has your experience lived up to your expectations?
A: I chose Howard University due to the legacy of excellence. Every day, I am taught by some of the best scholars in their respective fields and they all happen to look just like me. It is honestly really inspiring.
On the court, I chose Howard because of the winning program and culture. I have met some of the best people at Howard and these last four years have been an experience of a lifetime.
Q: What is it like playing at Burr Gymnasium in front of the home crowd?
A: The energy of a home crowd at Burr Gymnasium is unmatched. It is a pretty cool feeling to be competing in your sport surrounded with love. I have been blessed to play with my best friends and teammates, knowing that we have the support of our friends, family, classmates and community behind you. Every game at The Burr is incredibly special.
Q: If you could go back and tell your freshman self-one thing, what would it be?
A: If I could go back and tell my freshman self-one thing, I would tell her to slow down and enjoy every moment. I would tell her to be where your feet are, be present and enjoy the moment.
Q: How have you grown over the years at Howard—on and off the court?
A: I am a completely different person than when I came on to campus as a freshman. On the court, my game grew in that I was more aware of the court and different ways to score. But, off the court is where I grew even more.
Howard is the place that I literally grew up. My interests and career goals have changed and I am a much more confident person. Howard taught me hard work and resilience that I will carry for the rest of my life.
Q: What is next for you after graduation?
A: Immediately after graduation, I plan to attend graduate school or complete a fellowship abroad. Ultimately, I want to be a physician-scientist. So long-term, I plan to go to medical school.
