BALTIMORE (April 14, 2025) – Howard University graduate pitcher
Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) displayed one of her best performances in a Bison uniform, tossing a no-hitter in the 9-0 victory at Coppin State (CSU).
Ballenger recorded her third complete game of the season, throwing five innings with six Ks in the win.
HU provided plenty of run support for the Pennsylvania native, manufacturing nine runs on 12 hits.
Howard produced five runs in the opening frame, highlighted by a two-run double from graduate
Bri Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.), 5-0.
Next inning, junior
Zafirah Doss (Hayward, Calif.) and three-time MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Week
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) each delivered RBI singles to extend the margin, 7-0.
Top three, Ballenger drove in Martinez to push the lead to eight, 8-0.
Senior
Alyssa Vasquez (Eastvale, Calif.) added an insurance run in the fourth with a RBI single to center, 9-0.
Martinez went a perfect 3-of-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jones and Vasquez each registered two hits in the victory.
With the win, HU improved to 20-17 (14-1 MEAC) while extending its win streak to nine. For the Eagles (3-22, 3-12 MEAC), they have dropped seven-in-a-row, dating back to March 30.
On April 18-19, Howard faces Morgan State (MSU) in a MEAC three-games series in D.C. Friday (April 18), HU takes on MSU in a doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by a seven-inning contest Saturday (April 19) at 12:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
