Monarchs down Bison scoring attack

NORFOLK, Va. (March 5, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at Old Dominion (ODU), 20-4, in Norfolk, Va.

Graduate attacker Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) led the Bison with three points (two goals & one assist) and three draw controls in the setback.

ODU (6-2) jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage until senior attacker Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) ended the scoring drought and put HU back in the match, 3-1.

Old Dominion closed the quarter with two more scores, 5-1, then opened the second period with three more goals, 8-1.

HU battled back with a pair of goals from Walker and reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week Kyla Newkirk (Durham, N.C.), but the Monarchs held a commanding 12-3 lead at halftime.

ODU clamped down on the defensive end after intermission, holding Howard to one second half goal; thus, outscoring HU, 8-1, after the break.

Junior midfielder Kendall Barker (Columbus, Ohio) registered two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In the cage, freshmen Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) and Madeline Willocks (Freeport, N.Y.) combined for seven saves in a losing cause.
