NORFOLK, Va. (March 5, 2025) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at Old Dominion (ODU), 20-4, in Norfolk, Va.
Graduate attacker
Sawyer Walker (Magnolia, Del.) led the Bison with three points (two goals & one assist) and three draw controls in the setback.
ODU (6-2) jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage until senior attacker
Marley Rhymes (Coatesville, Pa.) ended the scoring drought and put HU back in the match, 3-1.
Old Dominion closed the quarter with two more scores, 5-1, then opened the second period with three more goals, 8-1.
HU battled back with a pair of goals from Walker and reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week
Kyla Newkirk (Durham, N.C.), but the Monarchs held a commanding 12-3 lead at halftime.
ODU clamped down on the defensive end after intermission, holding Howard to one second half goal; thus, outscoring HU, 8-1, after the break.
Junior midfielder
Kendall Barker (Columbus, Ohio) registered two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
In the cage, freshmen
Taylor Williams (West Chester, Pa.) and
Madeline Willocks (Freeport, N.Y.) combined for seven saves in a losing cause.
Sarah Murrell led the Monarchs with eight draw controls and seven points (five goals & two assists) in the victory.
On March 15, Howard continues its road trip in Erie, Pa., against Mercyhurst and will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
