WASHINGTON (March 28, 2025) – Howard University women's tennis team dropped a tough 5-2 decision to reigning MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Champion South Carolina State (SCSU) at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's (WTEF) East Capitol Campus.
Junior
Selah Stibbins (Minneapolis) and sophomore
Ava Chambers (Wellington, Fla.) led the Bison with a pair of singles victories against the Lady Bulldogs. Chambers defeated SCSU's Teodora Vujicic in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) while Minneapolis native edged out Valeria Teran in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 11-9).
Senior
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore
Imani Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each lost their respective singles contest in three sets.
South Carolina State won the other two singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles play, Chambers and Grayson knocked off SCSU's Vujicic and Nalanda Teixeria, 6-4, to extend their win streak to three.
Despite their efforts, South Carolina State took the early match lead after winning the other two doubles matches.
Saturday (March 29), HU (5-6, 0-1 MEAC) meets North Carolina Central at WTEF East Capitol Campus. Match time is slated for 9 a.m.
